Gas Suppliers Who Bundle Gas and Electricity

While it is possible to get your electricity and gas from different energy providers, it’s much easier when it’s all on one bill, right? By bundling your gas and electricity, you only need to deal with one energy provider and one energy account but you might not always be getting the best deal. However, by comparing the best energy providers that offer both gas and electricity, you can simplify your life and save on your energy bills. Energy providers that offer both gas and electricity include:

It’s important to note that not every dual-fuel provider is available in every state, and some might not offer both gas and electricity everywhere.

Gas Rates Explained

Gas prices vary wildly by state or territory. You want to be familiar with gas charges on your bill and when searching for a new plan, so you can understand whether you are paying more or less than the average gas bill for an Australian home.

If you look at your latest natural gas bill, you’ll probably see a few different charges. This includes the daily supply charge (in cents/day), for supplying your address with natural gas, and the usage rates.

Natural gas usage rates are charged in cents per megajoule (c/Mj), which is the unit of measurement for natural gas. If you live in Western Australia you might instead be charged per unit.

One gas unit is the equivalent of 3.6Mj

Natural gas usually costs anywhere between 1.5c and 3.5c per megajoule and is most commonly charged on a block rate tariff. This is where your daily (or sometimes monthly) gas usage is broken down into different blocks, with each block usually costing less than the previous. For example your natural gas might be charged as:

  • First 200 Mj per day: 3.4c / Mj
  • Next 150 Mj per day: 2.6c / Mj
  • Any usage after: 1.4c / Mj

Depending on where you live, and your natural gas provider and plan, you might instead have a single-rate gas tariff where you’re charged a flat rate in c/Mj no matter your usage, or a time-of-use gas tariff where your rates change depending on demand and the time of day.

LPG Gas Suppliers in Australia

LPG, or Liquefied Petroleum Gas, is a mixture of predominantly butane and propane. LPG is often used by households for heating, cooking, hot water, barbecues, and sometimes vehicles. Unlike natural gas, which is supplied to the property through the use of pipes connected to the gas mains, LPG is transported in tanks or cylinders that regularly need to be refilled or replaced.

Who Supplies LPG Gas in Australia?

While there are many local LPG providers, only a few larger companies supply LPG to different parts of Australia. Some of the biggest LPG providers are:

Keep in mind that the further your LPG provider needs to travel to refill or deliver LPG to your property, the more it will cost. Your best bet is to look around for a local LPG provider in your area who can arrange regular delivery.

What is the Difference Between LPG and Natural Gas?

LPG and natural gas, while used for similar purposes, also have some major differences. Not only is the composition different (LPG is mostly butane and propane while natural gas is mostly methane) but how they are supplied to your home is different too.

  • LPG is delivered in tanks, cylinders, or bottles which need to be refilled or replaced regularly
  • Natural gas is delivered into homes via the distribution network of gas pipes across Australia

It’s important to note that while both natural gas and LPG can be used for similar purposes, not all gas appliances can convert between one and the other.
