Red Energy Australia is a wholly Australian-owned company and, like its sister company Lumo Energy, is owned by Snowy Hydro. Red Energy, along with Lumo Energy, share more than one million customers across Australia offering electricity and gas in all states but WA. Read on for Red Energy tariffs and benefits as well as customer reviews.

Who Owns Red Energy?

Red Energy is wholly owned by Snowy Hydro and is a 100% Australian-owned energy company.

Snowy Hydro, which is one of Australia's leading renewable energy generators that traces its roots back to 1949, founded Red Energy in 2004.

Where Does Red Energy Operate?

Initially, Red Energy Australia provided electricity only to Victoria, but it now operates in New South Wales, South Australia, the ACT, and Queensland. Red energy does not operate in Western Australia.

Red Energy's sister company, Lumo Energy, recently began moving some customers over to Red Energy. Customers in Victoria and South Australia can still use Lumo Energy, but customers in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland, and the ACT now have their energy through Red Energy.

We took a look at Red Energy reviews from real customers to bring you an overview of how customers rate Red Energy.

On Trustpilot we found that customers' Red Energy reviews equalled an overall 3.2 out of 5 stars. This is not bad considering the low scores of other energy companies we have seen on the platform. However, Red Energy reviews left by customers on Product Review rated Red Energy at 1.9 out of 5 stars, which is considerably lower.

Customers seemed to have positive reviews about Red Energy's customer service, however, many mentioned that it was difficult to contact Red Energy and they spent 30 minutes on hold. Another important pattern to note is that the majority of negative reviews we saw had to do directly with their Red Energy solar program.

However, as a whole, Red Energy appears to be a solid choice for an energy supplier when it comes to customer service, good Red Energy rates for gas and electricity, and sign-on bonuses.

Red Energy customers can earn Qantas Red Energy frequent flyer points! If you join Red Energy or keep them after a move, you could earn 10,000 bonus Qantas Points for your electricity plan and 5,000 bonus Qantas Points for your gas plan. Paying your Red Energy bill on time allows you to earn 2 Qantas Points / $1 spent on gas & electricity.
