Our mission
Help every Australian household take control of its energy bill
Most Aussies pay more than they need to for power and gas, not because they are careless, but because the market is built to reward the people who never check. Plans roll over, discounts quietly expire, and the cheapest deal is rarely the one you are already on. Selectra exists to close that gap.
We turn a confusing market into plain, honest answers, so a household can compare offers properly, switch without the hassle, and stop overpaying. The same independence applies to broadband and mobile: information you would normally have to dig for, in one place, for free.
Free, always
Every guide, comparison and tool is free for Australian households, and it stays that way.
Information is power
We explain the Default Market Offer, tariffs and rebates plainly, so you decide with the full picture.
Independent by design
Any commission we earn never changes our rankings or advice. The recommendation is the one that suits you.
What we do
One goal: a lower bill and a better deal
Selectra Australia is a comparison and editorial website. We track the retailers that supply electricity and gas across the National Electricity Market, compare their plans against the regulated reference price for your area, and publish guides that explain how the whole thing works, from time-of-use tariffs to rebates and the shift to efficient electric appliances.
We do the same for broadband and mobile, so the everyday running costs of a home are easier to weigh up. What we never do is act as your retailer or your distributor. We cannot open or close an account, read your meter, or fix a fault. We point you to the right place, and we give you the information to choose well once you are there.
Want to see how we keep that information accurate? Read our content policy and fact-checking standards.
The people behind
Real people, writing for Australia
Everything you read here is written and fact-checked by people who know the Australian market, never by AI. Our local team is backed by Selectra's international energy experts, so the advice is grounded in both how the market works here and what comparison looks like in 18 countries.
Savannah is Selectra's SEO Project Manager and Editor, leading the team behind our energy, telecommunications and consumer-technology content. She shapes the news, reviews and how-tos you read here, and makes sure each one is accurate, current and easy to find when you need it.
Angelica works as an Energy and Telecom Call Centre Representative at Selectra Australia. She speaks with households every day, helping them compare plans and switch to the right deal, and brings the questions people actually ask straight back into the guides we publish.
Cornelia covers retail energy markets across Europe, New Zealand and Canada for the Selectra group. She researches each country's tariff rules, switching mechanics and consumer-protection policies, then turns the dense regulatory language into plain-English guides any household can act on.

Get it to the right place
Should you contact Selectra, or your provider?
This is the question that saves the most time. Selectra is independent: we do not run your account and we cannot fix a fault on the network. For anything tied to your actual supply, your energy retailer or your network distributor is the right contact. Here is the quick rule.
Your energy retailer
The company that bills you
- A bill, a charge or a payment plan;
- Hardship support or a payment extension;
- Connecting, disconnecting or moving your account;
- A meter read or a billing dispute.
Your network distributor
The company that owns the poles & wires
- A power outage or a blackout;
- A fallen power line or an electrical emergency;
- A new connection or supply fault;
- A planned outage in your area.
Selectra
That's us
- A question about comparing or switching plans;
- A mistake to flag, or a retailer we have missed;
- A media, content or partnership enquiry;
- Feedback on a guide or a story idea.
Contacting the team
One inbox, no call centre
Selectra Australia is an editorial and comparison website, not a call centre, so we keep everything in writing. One email reaches the team, and a written trail means nothing gets lost. We aim to reply to genuine enquiries within 2 Australian business days.
We deliberately do not run a phone helpline. It keeps us clearly separate from your energy retailer and your network distributor, who are the ones to ring about your account or a power outage. If your question is about your supply, the section above points you to the right place.

Complaints about selectra.com.au
If something is not right
We want our content to be accurate and our service to be helpful. If we have got something wrong, or you are unhappy with how we have handled an enquiry, please tell us and we will put it right. Complaints about Selectra are handled in two stages.
Please note: this process is about Selectra's own content and service. A complaint about your energy bill, a switch or a disconnection must go to your retailer first, and then to your state ombudsman if it is not resolved.
Email us first
Send the detail to [email protected] with the page or topic and what went wrong. We will acknowledge it and aim to give you a full response within 10 business days.
Ask us to escalate
If you are not satisfied with our reply, ask us to escalate it to a senior editor. We will review the matter again and respond within a further 15 business days.
Common questions
A Selectra expert answers your questions
No, and that is deliberate. Selectra Australia is an independent comparison and editorial website, not a call centre, so we keep everything in writing at [email protected]. A written trail means nothing gets lost, and it keeps us clearly separate from your energy retailer and your network distributor, who are the ones to ring about your actual account or a power outage.
Yes. Our guides, comparisons and tools are free for Australian households, and they always will be. We may earn a commission from some retailers when you switch, but that never changes our rankings or the advice we give. You can read the detail in our content policy.
We aim to reply to genuine enquiries within 2 Australian business days. Spotted a mistake in an article, or want to suggest a retailer we have missed? Email us and we will look into it.
No. For anything to do with your account, such as a bill, a payment plan, hardship support or moving home, contact your energy retailer. For a power outage, a fault or an emergency, contact your network distributor, never your retailer. Selectra cannot access your account or your meter.
