An Overview of EnergyAustralia
EnergyAustralia (formerly TRUenergy), is one of four Australian gentailer energy providers that both generate and sell their energy. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong-Kong based CLP Group. EnergyAustralia was first founded in 1996 as the state-owned enterprise, formed by a merger between Orion Energy and Sydney Electricity, which called itself EnergyAustralia.
Prior to the 1997 deregulation of the residential energy market, EnergyAustralia had a price-regulated monopoly of its supply area. In 2011, the original EnergyAustralia was sold to TRUenergy, which then adopted the original name in 2012.
Since its rebirth, EnergyAustralia has gone on to become one of the largest energy providers in Australia, offering electricity and gas as well as green energy options and solar power. In 2018, EnergyAustralia became one of 17 energy providers to support the launch of the Energy Charter which aims to bring affordable and reliable energy to customers across the globe.
Gas and Electricity Offers from EnergyAustralia

EnergyAustralia Gas Plans
EnergyAustralia offers three gas plans to residents in New South Wales, and the Australian Capital Territory: Basic Home, No Frills, and Total Plan. All EnergyAustralia gas plans come with no exit fees, however a moving fee does apply if you’re moving house.
EnergyAustralia’s Basic Homegas plan is the standard rates plan, with no discounts applied. These standard rates may differ depending on your location and are usually adjusted annually. This plan comes with a daily supply charge, as well as usage rates that decrease per MJ used per day. There is no late payment fee with the Basic Home plan.
EnergyAustralia’s No Frills gas plan comes with low, flat rates that won’t change for 12 months. This comes with a daily supply charge, and a flat rate at c/MJ used per day. The benefit period lasts 12 months and, while there is no exit fee, the No Frills plan does have a late payment fee applied if you pay your bill past the due date.
The Total Plan from EnergyAustralia offers a guaranteed percentage gas discount, as well as peace of mind that the usage rates and daily supply charges won’t change for 12 months. Unlike the No Frills plan which comes with a flat usage rate, no matter how many MJ per day used, the Total Plan usage rates decrease depending on how many MJ used per day. The Total Plan has a benefit period of one year, but no exit fees. Late payments incur a fee of $12 if you do not pay your bill before the due date.
At this time, EnergyAustralia does not offer the ability to make natural gas plans carbon-neutral or offer any natural gas green energy options.
Electricity Offers with EnergyAustralia
EnergyAustralia offers three basic electricity plans for Australian customers: Basic Home, No Frills, and Total Plan. There are no exit fees applied to any EnergyAustralia electricity plans however there are moving fees applied which are set by your individual distributor by location.
Have Solar Power? For electricity users with solar panels, EnergyAustralia offers solar buy-back at a single rate feed-in tariff. Actual rates depend on your location.
The Basic Home electricity plan offered by EnergyAustralia is the equivalent of the Victorian Default Offer or Default Market Offer set by the Australian government. Factors such as the type of tariff and location may change the usage rates. The Basic Home plan comes with no benefit period, and no exit fee, as well as no late payment fee. The usage rates are variable and generally adjusted annually.

EnergyAustralia’s No Frills electricity plan comes with a discounted usage rate. Carbon Neutral?EnergyAustralia can make your home electricity 100% carbon neutral at no additional cost when you opt-in.
The Total Plan from EnergyAustralia guarantees a discount percentage from the standard reference price for 12 months. This discount applies to both the supply charge and usage rate. It should be noted that this might not always give you the lowest estimated price, and occasionally the No Frills plan will be estimated to be less expensive depending on your location. As with the No Frills plan, the benefit period lasts one year, and comes with no exit fee. Depending on your location, there may be a $12 late fee for bills paid past their due date.
EnergyAustralia and Solar Power
EnergyAustralia offers many solar options, including full packages, solar batteries, and solar buy-back with feed-in-tariffs.
Solar Power Systems
EnergyAustralia provides solar power systems; which include panels, inverter, and a full installation; as complete packages. Their available panels are the Trina Honey M Plus, which comes with a 10-year product warranty and 25-year performance guarantee, or the Q Cell C.Peak Duo which comes with a 12-year product warranty and 25-year performance guarantee.
EnergyAustralia also offers three choices of inverter; the Zever, the SMA which includes a 5+5 year extended warranty, or the Enphase which has an online platform to monitor energy generation. - Make a 5% deposit and pay the balance with either MasterCard or Visa once your installation is finished

Solar power batteries from EnergyAustralia can be bought separately or included with a solar power package. EnergyAustralia offers two solar battery options; Tesla Powerwall or the Redback Smart Hybrid System with LG Chem battery.

EnergyAustralia offers feed-in tariff plans to customers in certain Australian states. Depending on where you live, you may be eligible for either single-rate feed-in tariffs and if you’re in Victoria you could also be eligible for time of use feed-in tariffs.

- Basic information and contact details
- Identification: Drivers license, passport, or Medicare card
When requesting a quote you will also be able to decide if you want additional account holder details and permission levels, choose to set up direct debit and add an optional concession card.
Looking to Change?
The Australian government allows a 10-business-day cooling off period after subscribing, in which you can cancel anytime, no questions asked. If you want to cancel your EnergyAustralia subscription you’re free to do so at any time by either going to your My Account or calling 133 466.
