Solstice Energy, formerly Tas Gas, is the largest gas retailer and sole gas distributor in Tasmania. It is a majority Australian-owned private company serving residential, business and industrial customers across Tasmania and parts of regional Victoria. As of 2024 it also retails electricity in Tasmania.

Solstice is the sole gas distributor in Tasmania, supplying major towns such as Hobart, Launceston, Devonport, Burnie, Wynyard, Bell Bay and Ulverstone, plus regional Victorian towns like Terang and Swan Hill. Coverage depends on the reach of the Tasmanian Gas Networks and Victorian pipelines.

Tasmanian residential gas is typically 61.0c per day supply and 4.606c per MJ usage. In Victoria it is $1.25 per day and 6.262c per MJ. Disconnection and reconnection fees can exceed $100 in or outside business hours, so check the fee schedule before switching.

Solstice and Aurora are the only two gas retailers in Tasmania, with almost identical rates. Aurora is government-owned, while Solstice is privately owned and controls the Tasmanian Gas Networks, handling gas distribution for both itself and Aurora customers.

Solstice offers rebates for connecting additional gas appliances: $500 for flued heating, $250 for continuous hot water and $1,000 for ducted heating. Commercial customers may qualify for an installation incentive. Terms apply and may require contacting Solstice directly.
