Thinking about switching to Kogan Energy? In this article, we cover the main selling points of Kogan and analyze their rates, reviews, plans & features to help you make the best decision. Discover what makes Kogan different from other energy brands and whether they are the best option for you.
Overview of Kogan - Who Is Kogan Energy?
Believe it or not, there are still people who do not know who Kogan is, but did you know that the online retail giant is now jumping into the energy sector as well?
Kogan Energy is the happy marriage between Kogan and Powershop, the New Zealand-based electricity retailer that also sells gas and electricity in Australia. Both companies started a joint venture in 2019 - Kogan sells you the energy plan, but your energy supply will essentially come from Powershop.
While Kogan handles the more marketing-based and business aspects, Powershop brings the energy and expertise. Powershop has been providing electricity & gas since 2007 in New Zealand and 2012 in Australia, so it has considerable experience in the energy market and makes it a safe choice for customers.
Kogan Energy is available in the following states:
Is Kogan Energy Any Good?
Compared to other providers, we would say that Kogan Energy is about average. In other words, Kogan Energy is neither good nor bad.
PROS | CONS |
---|---|
Strong online infrastructure | Not enough reviews |
Good mobile app | There are cheaper options |
Fair rates | No Green plans |

The business model for Kogan is to sell many products at cheap prices while providing a convenient online platform to do so. Kogan Energy tries to follow the same principle, but their prices are average at best. Kogan claims to offer great value and “amazing” competitive rates, but their rates tend to stand in the middle of the table of the cheapest energy providers.
However, Kogan Energy is still one of the rookies in the Australian Energy market and that means they have still the potential to become a key player. As of today, Kogan Energy only offers one plan outside the Default Market Offer, and it’s designed to bring in new members and promote Kogan’s premium service of Kogan First.
Our Final Verdict on Kogan Energy:Kogan Energy is a fine choice if you like to manage your expenses online and value convenience over price. Kogan has a solid mobile app and they supply their electricity & gas through Powershop, which has fair experience in the market. However, there are many other brands that will provide you with better rates and arguably better customer care, rewards and plan variety. We recommend you explore other options before signing up with Kogan.
Kogan Energy Review - What Do Customers Think of Kogan?
Kogan Australia & Kogan nbn reviews are all over the place, but Kogan Energy reviews are almost nonexistent.
In any case, having an insight into what customers think of Kogan products might help you make up your mind.
This is how customers rate Kogan Australia products on various popular review sites:
Review Site | Kogan.com | Kogan NBN |
---|---|---|
ProductReview | 3.6 / 5 (20.597 reviews) | 3.8 / 5 (1.303 reviews) |
Trustpilot | 3.6 / 5 (13.981 reviews) | N / A |
Sitejabber | 1 / 5 (409 reviews) | N / A |
While Kogan Energy is relatively new (2019), three years is more than enough time to gather some feedback. The fact that Kogan Energy is still largely outside of the major review platforms after all this time also suggests that most customers still prefer other energy providers.
There are a few Kogan Energy reviews scattered in some forums and review sites, so maybe you should consider delving deeper into them as well.
Is Kogan Legit?
Yes, Kogan Energy is legit, but it doesn’t mean that it is the best option for you!
Being such a large company, Kogan reviews are easy to mix with other Kogan products and Kogan nbn service. Kogan products are everywhere, the company sells everything from televisions, to dishwashers and life insurance. However, while Kogan products are known for their low prices, they can also be a hit or miss.
NOTE In 2021, Kogan Energy partner Powershop had to pay $300,000 in penalties after charging higher usage rates to Victorian Kogan customers with solar panels.

Kogan Energy App
Kogan products and services are typically purchased through their website or using their various apps. Kogan Energy is no exception.
The Kogan Energy app is arguably one of the main selling points of Kogan Energy.
With the Kogan Energy app you will be able to do all of the following:
- Monitor your energy usage
- Review & Pay your Kogan Energy bills
- Manage & make changes to your account
The Kogan Energy app comes in handy because all Kogan Energy plans for gas and electricity are processed online. Kogan does not issue paper bills, you only need to access your Kogan account with your Kogan login and manage everything from there.
As we also saw with Kogan reviews in general, the Kogan Energy mobile app also doesn't have much feedback. However, in general, Kogan reviews for their mobile apps were positive overall.
As a massive online retailer, Kogan has lots of experience building successful software and apps and since it was developed by the same team that created other Kogan apps, the user experience will not be much different.
