Origin LPG

As one of the largest energy retailers in the country, Origin Energy offers liquified petroleum gas (LPG) in addition to its standard electricity and natural gas services.

Depending on your LPG usage, you can choose between LPG gas bottle exchange, or LPG gas refills to ensure a steady supply of LPG to your home.

With the Origin gas bottle exchange, you’ll be supplied with one or more 45kg LPG bottles. When the bottles run low, you order a replacement when you need. This option is best for low to medium gas consumers, or for properties where it may be difficult to install large cylinders or gas tanks.

The Origin gas refill option is better suited for high-consumption energy users. You’ll get an LPG tank or cylinder installed onto your property, and then get regularly scheduled refills automatically, based on your personal usage. You can also contact Origin Energy if you need a top-up or earlier gas refill.

Origin Solar

Origin Energy offers end-to-end residential solar energy solutions including solar energy plans, solar PV systems, and solar battery storage.

Whether you’re looking to invest in solar for the first time or maximise the benefits of your current solar PV system, Origin Energy claims to be experts with over 15 years of solar energy experience at getting you set up with the right solar solution for you.

Origin Solar Plans

In addition to its standard electricity plans, Origin Energy has two solar energy plans, for customers who want to get the most out of their solar PV systems.

Origin Solar Boost: Origin Solar Boost gives customers, who already have a solar Pv system installed, a higher solar feed-in tariff than their standard rate. The Origin Solar Boost electricity plan comes with variable rates on a 12-month benefit period with no exit fees.

Origin Solar Boost Plus: Origin Solar Boost Plus gives customers the highest solar feed-in tariff available through Origin Energy for 24 months when they invest in Origin Energy solar and purchase their solar PV system with Origin.

Origin Energy Solar Packages

Origin Energy offers end-to-end solar solutions to residential customers including full solar PV systems and battery storage.

Origin Solar packages start from $3,295 and you can choose to pay upfront once your solar PV system is installed, or over a 24-month interest-free payment plan with $0 deposit. Once you’ve gotten your Origin Solar system, you’ll be eligible for Origin Solar Boost Plus which unlocks that highest solar feed-in tariff Origin has to offer.

Origin Feed-in Tariff

Origin Energy has different solar feed-in tariffs available to their customers, depending on the energy plan you use, and your solar PV system.

  • Standard FiT: Available on all Origin Energy electricity plans
  • Solar Boost FiT: The highest feed-in tariff for customers with existing high-export solar systems

Origin Energy Review

From our research into Origin Energy reviews across the internet, customer satisfaction seems quite high with Origin Energy.

For example, customers leaving Origin Energy reviews on ProductReview gave Origin Energy 3.8 out of 5 stars.

On TrustPilot, however, Origin Energy scored 4.7 out of 5 stars for customer satisfaction. 85% of customers left 5-star reviews!

In one Origin Energy review, a customer named Patricia Martin wrote:

Well I just wanted to let you know that Drew was fabulous he answered the phone call straight away no waiting at all he was very nice and helped me understand what was going on with my bill he put me on a new and better plan so I can save extra money he was just amazing thank U Drew. - Patricia Martin

It's nice to see the company is willing to help its customers save money.

Another customer named Joseph wrote:

I want to thank Jen for her relentless and ongoing support in resolving an issue which took a lot of effort. She has people skills to boot and because of her efforts to solve problems I am still a customer of Origin. In my opinion, Jen, is an asset to Origin as a company. Congratulations Jen. - Joseph Debono

In nearly all of the reviews we see, customers name agents by their first name, which shows the personal touch Origin Energy's customer service team puts on each individual customer case that they handle.

Likewise, we see transparency in terms of billing and helping customers save money.

However, with anything, there are some negative Origin Energy reviews.

Customers who gave Origin Energy one-star reviews mentioned that their energy rates continue to go up and that they have trouble negotiating with the company.

One customer named Anthony wrote:

I just renewed my annual plan with Origin Energy and they were not willing to negotiate a suitable win-win for us both regarding fees, charges and feed-in tariffs. This has been my experience every year with Origin. Origin is only interested in increasing costs to customers and driving them to consider other energy providers. I am a loyal Origin customer no more. - Anthony

As is typical with negative reviews of other energy companies. Many customers complain about Origin Energy solar feed-in tariffs.

An anonymous customer wrote the following:

Solar is the biggest con job, except for climate change, every perpetuated on mankind. Origin feed in tariff dropped several weeks after I signed up with them. Also the feed in tariff per electricity bill does not even cover the supply charge cost. Sure my electricity bill decreased, but it cost me $16,000 for a 10kw system. I will never recoup that initial cost. - Anonymous

As with anything, its best to take these reviews lightly as everyone's experience is going to be different.

However, they do allow us to see the pros and cons of Origin Energy.

Origin Energy Pros and Cons

Origin Energy Review: Pros

  • Competetive electricity prices
  • Excellent customer service
  • Higher than average FiT
  • Electricity, gas, LPG, & solar

Origin Enrgy Review: Cons
