Origin Energy is one of the biggest energy providers in Australia, servicing more than four million Australians across the country. As an integrated energy company, Origin Energy generates and sells both gas and electricity to customers in New South Wales, the ACT, Victoria, Queensland, and South Australia, as well as only natural gas to Western Australians. But how do Origin Energy’s rates compare to other providers in the country? And what can you expect to pay if you decide to switch to Origin? To find out, continue reading below.

Origin Energy plans for electricity and gas

Origin Energy has three plans, available for both gas and electricity, in Australia. All Origin energy gas and electricity plans give you the option of flexible billing, payment, and communication, as well as no exit fees, and no lock-in contacts.

Origin Go replaces Origin Energy’s previous Origin Max Saver online plan. It still offers the biggest discount of any Origin Energy electricity or gas plan, but now you can also collect Everyday Rewards points in addition to the discount off the reference price. Everyday Rewards Members can collect a one-off 5,000 point bonus on sign-up for each fuel type chosen, as well as collect an additional point for every $1 on bills for usage and supply.

Origin Flexi offers a total discount off usage and supply, as well as flexible payment and billing, giving you the freedom to pay your bills in a way that works for you. You have the option of monthly or quarterly billing statements, either sent by email or in the mail, as well as optional direct debit.

Origin Home Support (+ Origin Basic Gas) doesn’t offer a discount off the reference price, but gives customers 12 months of free Allianz Global Assistance Emergency Home Assistance membership. This gives customers up to $300 each for two home callouts, access to 24/7 qualified tradespeople in the Allianz Network, and support for 10 common household emergencies.

Origin Energy solar feed-in-tariff rates

If you have residential solar energy on your property, you might be interested to know Origin Energy’s solar feed-in-tariff rates. Origin Energy offers solar feed-in-tariff options to its customers, which vary depending on the state you live in and depend on what Origin Energy electricity plan you choose.

Regular solar feed-in-tariff: Origin Energy’s minimum solar FiT, which is available on every electricity plan they offer. If you have a smaller solar energy system (under 5kW), or use most of your energy during the day, you’ll probably be better off choosing one of Origin Energy’s electricity plans, and opting for the lower solar feed-in-tariff.

Solar Boost feed-in-tariff: If you have a larger solar PV system (over 5kW) and don’t use most of your energy during the day, thus exporting more to the grid, you might be better off choosing Origin Energy Solar Boost. With Solar Boost, you don’t get additional discounts, but you do get a higher solar FiT for the energy you generate.

Solar Boost Plus feed-in-tariff: Solar Boost Plus offers Origin Energy’s biggest solar feed-in-tariff, but with some conditions. Customers can only get Origin Energy Solar Boost Plus if they purchase a new solar PV system directly from Origin First.
