It’s important to remember that not every Origin Energy plan is available everywhere, and some might come with conditional discounts you will need to meet.

Below is a list of the options for Origin Gas Plans:

Origin Basic Plan

The Origin Basic plan is a standing offer for gas with variable rates that are the same as the reference price. With this plan, you can choose to set it and forget it, giving you access to Origin Energy's ongoing basic rate without having to renew it annually. The Origin Basic plan is a straightforward option that provides a reasonable gas supply rate. One of the more expensive options for Origin gas, this plan matches the Reference Price/VDO in each location and has no exit fees or lock-in contracts.

  • Variable rate plan
  • Option to set and forget
  • No exit fees or lock-in contract

Origin Everyday Rewards Variable

The Origin Everyday Rewards Variable plan is a flexible plan that offers a variable rate for gas supply. With this plan, you can earn Qantas Points on eligible spending and benefit from a no fixed-term contract, where you can switch plans at any time. To be eligible for the Origin Everyday Rewards Variable plan, you must already have an Everyday Rewards membership at the time of sign-up. An Everyday Rewards account may be linked to more than one Energy Plan. With this gas plan, you will have flexibility with billing and payment, as well as a rewards program that allows you to earn discounts and benefits on other products and services from select partners. Also, this plan has no exit costs and a 12% discount on gas usage fees for timely payments.

  • Only for existing Everyday Rewards members
  • No fixed-term contract

How to Sign Up for an Origin Gas Plan

Signing up for Origin gas is a simple process. If you're an existing customer, and are interested in entering into a new gas plan with Origin or are moving to a new home and need to set up your new Origin Gas connection, you are in the right place. If you're currently with another gas provider, then switching to an Origin Energy gas plan is just as simple. To ensure your Origin Gas connection is a smooth process, follow these simple steps:

  • Check if Origin Energy services your area: Before you can set up an Origin Gas connection, you'll need to make sure that they provide gas in your area. You can check this on their website or by calling them directly.
  • Sign up for an Origin gas plan: You can sign up for a new plan once you've established that Origin Energy provides service in your region. After exploring all Origin Energy's gas plans, and selected the one that best meets your needs, you can sign up online, over the phone, or in person. You can also sign up in person at an Origin Energy retail store. To find the nearest Origin Energy retail store, visit the Origin Energy website.
  • Provide the necessary details: You'll need to give Origin Energy some essential information, including your name, address, and phone number. Depending on your circumstances, you might also need to provide them with additional details. For example, if you currently have another energy provider, Origin will contact your current gas provider and arrange for the switch to be completed.
  • Arrange for a gas meter installation: If there isn’t already a gas meter at your property, you'll need to arrange for a gas meter installation by filling out a natural gas connection request and submit it online. You can also do this through your local gas distributor.
  • Wait for your new gas connection: Once the gas meter is installed, all you have to do next is wait for Origin Energy to connect your gas supply. They'll let you know when this has been completed, or you can track your natural gas request online.

Origin LPG

Origin Energy also offers LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) plans for customers who live in areas without access to natural gas. Depending on your LPG usage, you can choose between LPG gas bottle exchange, or LPG gas refills to ensure a steady supply of Origin Energy LPG to your home.

One or more 45kg LPG bottles will be provided to you as part of the Origin gas bottle exchange. You can order more bottles using your My Origin Account when the current supply runs out. This is the ideal option for residences with low to moderate gas consumption or where it would be challenging to install huge cylinders or gas tanks.

High energy consumers are better suited for the Origin gas refill option. Depending on your individual demand, an LPG tank or cylinder will be installed on your property, and you will thereafter receive automatically scheduled refills on a regular basis. If you require a top-up or an earlier gas refill, you can also get in touch with Origin Energy.

Origin LPG Call Origin LPG at 13 35 74 to move your Origin LPG connection to your new address.

Origin Gas FAQ

Where Does Origin Energy Get Their Gas From?

Origin Energy sources their gas from a variety of suppliers, both domestic and international. They have invested in their own gas production and exploration projects in Australia, including the Australia Pacific LNG project in Queensland. Additionally, Origin Energy also purchases gas from other producers to ensure a reliable supply for their customers.

Origin Energy is actually the largest owner of natural gas-fired power stations in Australia. They also get their power from coal, wind, pumped water storage, solar and cogeneration plants. Their gas-fired stations emit about half the carbon of a typical coal-fired power station. Origin operates six natural gas-fired power stations: one base station that provides power for everyday use, and five peaking stations that provide power during peak times.

What is the Difference Between Natural Gas and LPG?

Natural gas is directly delivered to your home via an underground network of pipelines. Generally speaking, it is more environmentally friendly and less expensive than LPG gas. On the other hand, LPG gas must be manually refilled and is kept in bottles or tanks. It is frequently utilised as a backup energy source or in locations where natural gas is not accessible. LPG gas, however, is typically more expensive than natural gas.

How Can I Get an Origin Gas Bottle Refill?

If you're using LPG gas from Origin, you'll need to refill your gas bottles when they run out. Customers can do this by ordering online or by calling the Origin LPG customer service team at 13 35 75. They'll arrange for a delivery truck to come to your home and replace your empty gas bottles with full ones. Please note that delivery is available in most areas, and prices vary depending on your location. You can also exchange your empty bottles for full ones at certain service stations and hardware stores.

Is Origin Energy Gas Cheaper than AGL Gas?

The cost of gas can vary depending on your location, usage, and the plan you choose. However, according to Selectra's energy comparison tool, AGL gas plans tend to be slightly more expensive than Energy Australia gas plans in some areas. It's worth comparing the prices of different gas plans in your area to see which one is the most cost-effective for you.
