Vodafone NBN plans

Vodafone is one of the biggest broadband and mobile providers in Australia, and one of the three Mobile Network Operators who maintain the mobile network infrastructure of the country. Vodafone offers a range of services including new phones, mobile plans, and multiple broadband options such as NBN. For more information about Vodafone’s NBN plans, keep reading below.

What is the NBN?

The NBN is a nationalized wholesale data-network project, with the aim of replacing the current broadband and phone services in Australia. It’s currently being rolled out across the country, with the hopes of completing the rollout by the end of the year.

The NBN is made up of a variety of technologies including fibre optic, copper wires, and hybrid fibre-coaxial, as well as satellite and fixed wireless broadband for regional and remote Australians.

NBN prices are based on the maximum speeds for different plans. NBN speeds are typically as follows:

  • Basic or NBN12 with a maximum download speed of 12Mbps, which is good for light internet users who only really go online for emails, social media, or web browsing
  • Standard or NBN25 with a maximum download speed of 25Mbps, good for one or two people who stream videos in standard definition
  • Standard Plus or NBN50 with a maximum download speed of 50Mbps which is ideal for small families or people who like to stream a lot of videos or play online videogames
  • Premium or NBN100 with a maximum download speed of 100Mbps, best for larger families or heavy duty online gamers or streamers

It’s important to note that NBN broadband speeds are categorized by their maximum download speeds and many factors can influence the actual speeds of your broadband through the NBN. This can include peak evening hour usage, how many people in your home are using the internet at once, or how far away you are from the node (depending on the type of NBN connection in your house).

Is NBN Available Where I Live?

NBN is currently being rolled out across the country, with the aim of completing the rollout by the end of 2020. Once your area has NBN, you have 18 months to switch over from your previous broadband. Vodafone NBN is available in several places across Australia including every capital city and has expanded regional coverage to include regional centres and the surrounding areas.

New South Wales: Greater Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle, Central Coast, Maitland, Foster, Goulburn, Wagga Wagga, Grafton, Lismore, Nowra, Batemans Bay, and other South Coast centres
Victoria: Greater Melbourne, Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat
Queensland: Greater Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Cairns, Toowoomba, Townsville, Sunshine Coast
Western Australia: Greater Perth, South Coogee, Rockingham, Albany, Esperance, Broome, Exmouth, Geraldton, and many other regional centres
South Australia: Greater Adelaide Victor Harbour, Mount Gambier and other regional centres
Northern Territory: Darwin and other regional centres
ACT: Completely covered by Vodafone NBN
Tasmania: Completely covered by Vodafone NBN

If you’re unsure about whether your area has NBN available, you can check your address when signing up with Vodafone. If NBN isn’t available yet, there are plenty of other broadband options with Vodafone to help you get connected to the internet in your home or business.

Vodafone offers three NBN plans to customers living in connected areas. Each plan comes with unlimited data, so you don’t need to worry about running out every month. In addition, Vodafone offers 4G backup (with their Wifi Hub modem) to ensure you remain connected during interruptions to the NBN network.

All Vodafone NBN plans are on month-to-month contracts, giving you the freedom and flexibility to change plans or switch providers without a fee. With Vodafone NBN, you can bring your own NBN-configured modem or include Vodafone’s Wifi Hub for $0 per month if you stay with Vodafone for 36 months. If you choose to terminate your NBN plan with Vodafone, however, you will need to pay off the rest of your modem.

If you’re a new Vodafone NBN customer, you’re covered under Vodafone’s 30-day Network Satisfaction Guarantee. If you’re not satisfied with your NBN network coverage with Vodafone, you can send back your device in its original packaging and you’ll be refunded for any monthly plan fees or device installments you’ve paid.

How to Subscribe to Vodafone NBN

It’s simple to subscribe to a Vodafone NBN plan online. You’ll need to include the address you wish to connect the NBN plan to and Vodafone can easily tell you what type of installation you need, and how good of a connection you’ll have.

Vodafone provides either assisted install or self-install for their NBN services. With assisted install, Vodafone will organize an NBN technician to come out and install the service which means someone 18+ will need to be present. With self-install, you just need to wait for your service to be activated and you can easily connect to Vodafone NBN with your Vodafone Wifi Hub.

In addition to the type of installation your residence will require, Vodafone can also tell you what type of mobile network coverage you have, giving you information about how good of a connection Vodafone can provide with their instant connect and 4G backup.

Once you decide which plan you want, it’s easy to check out online. Customers who are already with Vodafone can use their credentials while new customers can sign-up during checkout.

When checking out you will need to provide your personal information in order to check eligibility through a credit check. Information required includes:

  • Name, date of birth, phone number, and/or email address
  • Installation address
  • How long you have lived at the connection address, and previous address if current occupancy is under 3 years
  • Employment details and residential status
