How to Sign up for an AGL Gas Plan

AGL customers who are moving house and want to keep their AGL plan can arrange their new home energy connection online. Just log into your AGL Account and let the AGL New Connections team know when and where you're moving with AGL. Switching to AGL gas usually takes up to three business days. However, it may take longer if there are any issues with your gas connection or meter. AGL also offers a moving service, which allows you to easily transfer your gas service to your new home.

For AGL gas meter installations, additions or alterations to your existing supply, or removal of your existing supply, fill out the Gas Application form and send it in one of the following ways:

  • By mail to Locked Bag 14120 MCMC Melbourne, Victoria, 8001
  • By email to AGL's new connections team
  • By faxing the form to 1800 634 823

If you currently have another gas provider but want to switch to an AGL gas plan, the process is simple. You can switch online or over the phone, and AGL will take care of the rest. They will contact your current provider to arrange the transfer, and you won't experience any interruptions to your gas supply. All you will need to do is provide some basic information, such as your address and contact details, and choose a payment method. AGL accepts a range of payment options, including direct debit, credit card, and BPAY.

To get a new gas connection, follow these steps:

  • Submit your AGL gas connection application
  • Wait for your energy distributor to process your application
  • Have your AGL gas connection installed by your energy distributor
  • Get notification your gas connection has been installed

Depending on the type of AGL gas connection you need to be installed, the construction can take up to 30 days to finish for a new service line installation, and three days for a meter installation. When organising your move into a new home, it’s best to make sure you plan accordingly.

AGL Gas Disconnection

If you need to organise your AGL gas disconnection, you can contact the new connections team at 1800 680 430 or fill out an application and send it to AGL.

Follow the steps below to either change or remove your AGL gas meter:

 Fill out the Application

For AGL gas disconnection, you can fill out the Application for gas form and send it to AGL either by mail, email or fax.

 Process the Application:

After you've submitted your application, AGL will check the details and send the request to the distributor in 3-5 business days.

 Arrange a Site Visit

When your request is accepted, the distributor will pay you a visit to make the changes to your meter. You will need to ensure that your site is safe and accessible.

 Finalise the Disconnection

AGL will send you an SMS once your change or removal is complete. It can take up to 20 business days to complete the removal and up to five business days to provide you with an update about your request. The fees for the abolishment of gas can vary depending on the amount of work required and who the distributor is in your area. The charges set by the energy distributor will be reflected on your AGL bill. If you see any unusual fees on your bill, please contact AGL for further information.

How Does AGL Source Energy

AGL generates energy from a variety of resources, including coal, natural gas, and green energy. AGL is dedicated to making the switch to cleaner energy, and by 2048 it intends to phase out all of its coal-fired power plants. AGL is the biggest ASX-listed investor in renewable energy and manages Australia's largest portfolio of electricity production. Over 30% of eastern Australia's gas requirements are met by coal seam gas that is supplied by AGL.

AGL operates two gas storage facilities, that help maintain a continuous supply of gas during peak periods:

LPG Gas

In addition to natural gas, AGL also offers LPG gas for customers who are not connected to the main gas network. This can be a convenient option for customers living in rural or remote areas, as well as businesses that require a portable gas solution.

AGL offers two LPG plans: the LPG Bottled Gas Plan and the LPG Tank Gas Plan. The Bottled Gas Plan is best for those who use gas occasionally, while the Tank Gas Plan is intended for those who use gas frequently.

Green Energy

AGL Carbon Neutral

AGL provides its customers with carbon-neutral plans, which means that the carbon emissions from their energy use are offset by means of different initiatives and investments in carbon reduction projects, such as reforestation and renewable energy. This option is available for both residential and business customers and is part of a larger goal of reaching Australia’s renewable energy target.

You can also decide to sign up for a carbon-neutral plan, which is certified by Climate Active, for your small or large business, and support projects that genuinely reduce emissions. Climate Active is an Australian network of individuals, businesses and organisations that aims to empower Australians to take climate action now and for the future

Below are all the reasons why signing up for an AGL Carbon-neutral plan is a great choice:

  • AGL Carbon Neutral is certified by Climate Active
  • It's an affordable way to offset emissions associated with the energy supplied to and used by your small business
  • It’s easy – all you need to do is opt into a carbon-neutral plan for electricity, gas or solar
  • To making a difference both locally and globally

You can opt into a carbon-neutral gas plan for an additional $7 a week. It’s easy to add Carbon Neutral by messaging AGL online or in My AGL Account. You’ll need to be the account holder and have your account number handy. Carbon Neutral carries over from your existing plan if you move to another AGL contract (unless you move premises).

Below is the procedure for signing up for a carbon-neutral gas plan:

  • Use your gas product: You use your supply of gas and create carbon emissions, which contribute to climate change.
  • AGL will do the computing: AGL will then calculate the emissions associated with the energy you used.
  • AGL will then offset these emissions: AGL will buy and retire the eligible carbon credits from accredited projects to offset the emissions, on your behalf.
