EnergyAustralia Disconnection

EnergyAustralia is one of the ‘big 3’ energy providers in Australia that offers gas and electricity plans for Australian customers. If you need to move house or happened to find a new energy provider, you need to know how to disconnect or cancel your EnergyAustralia account. We have created this guide with detailed information on how to disconnect your energy supply, any fees you may have to pay, and even how to cancel your EnergyAustralia account.

Organising your EnergyAustralia Disconnection

Disconnecting your EnergyAustralia account is a fairly simple process.

If you are an existing EnergyAustralia customer, you can easily disconnect your energy supply. Please provide EnergyAustralia with at least 2-3 business days to ensure that your disconnection is done on time. There are two easy ways that you can organise your Disconnection from EnergyAustralia, including:

  • Via Your My EnergyAustralia Login Account: Once you access your EnergyAustralia online login account, head to the move home page. You will just need to pick a new gas or electricity plan, tell EnergyAustralia when you are moving and sign up for your new account at your new address. EnergyAustralia will then disconnect the gas or electricity at your old address and get it set up at your new residence.
  • Call EnergyAustralia: You can book your energy disconnection over the phone by calling the EnergyAustralia moving house team at 133 466.

If you are a new EnergyAustralia customer, and you want to disconnect from your old energy provider, you can easily call them to let them know that you are moving out and switching energy provider.

If you need an urgent disconnection, you can call Energy Australia at 133 466.

EnergyAustralia Disconnection Fee

Electricity Piggy Bank

While it is not definitive, you may be required to pay a disconnection fee when you disconnect EnergyAustralia. The disconnection fees are set by your energy distributor, not your energy provider. So, it does not matter who your energy retailer is, as the distributor, who is responsible for managing the oversight of energy usage in your area, decides what the cost of disconnection is. Whether you are required to pay EnergyAustralia disconnection fees depends on a variety of factors, including:

  • Your location and energy distributor
  • Whether you have a smart meter, which allows for a remote meter reading
  • Whether this meter read is outside of normal business hours
  • Whether you are disconnecting a gas or electricity supply

The fees generally range anywhere from $13 to $99 and depend on your specific circumstances. The disconnection fee will be reflected in your final energy bill. If you have further questions regarding the cost of disconnection, you can contact EnegyAustralia customer service to inquire about the exact price and figure out any other fees and charges you may have to pay.

Disconnect EnergyAustralia Business

If you are an existing EnergyAustralia business customer, the procedure for disconnecting your business' gas or electricity is very simple. All you have to do is call EnergyAustralia at 1800 146 749   and they will arrange the disconnection at your old address and even arrange the connection at your new one. For business disconnections, please give EnergyAustralia six days before you need the disconnection to be finalised.

If you currently have another energy provider and are switching your business to EnergyAustralia, you will need to contact your current energy retailer to arrange the disconnection at your old location. Then, EnergyAustralia can easily handle the connection at your new address, you will just need to let them know three days in advance, and provide them with the following information:

  • the address of your new business premise
  • the date you want the electricity and gas connected
  • your business name and contact numbers
  • your ABN

You may be required to pay a disconnection fee, depending on the state in which your business is located and the specific energy plan that you have. Your energy distributor will decide whether they need to send someone out to do your final meter read, and the associated costs will be reflected in your final energy bill. You will receive your final bill after your relocation or disconnect is complete.

It is important to note again that the disconnection fees are determined by your energy distributor, not by EnergyAustralia. Below are the prices for EnergyAustralia business disconnection, according to the state in which your business operates and the type of service that you are disconnecting:
