Best value pick
Indicative pricing for comparison only, subject to change and availability at your address. If you exceed a capped allowance, speeds are throttled to 256 Kbps until the next monthly period; unlimited plans are not affected.
Our take. If you want the best value across the range, the Ultimate NBN is the pick: 250 Mbps, a Telstra home phone plan, a Telstra 4G Smart Modem and 20,000 Telstra Points. Telstra runs its own network and leads the NBN market with around 3.5 million NBN connections (about 45% share, excluding satellite), but it is not a budget option. If price is your priority, a challenger telco may be cheaper.
Home phone
Every Telstra NBN plan can bundle a home phone, and the standalone Ultimate Voice plan is good value on its own: a fixed home phone service with unlimited local, national and Australian mobile calls.
Network
The Telstra mobile network is the biggest in Australia. Its 4G network reaches 99% of the population, and as of January 2025, 92% of Australians have access to Telstra 5G in their local area, across more than 2,700 suburbs and 200+ cities and towns. Coverage is centred on the east and west coasts, with stronger reach in the Northern Territory than rival networks.
Telstra runs Australia's largest mobile and fixed network. Its 4G reaches 99% of Australians and 5G now covers 2,700+ suburbs, so several other telcos run on the Telstra network too.
Every Telstra NBN plan includes the Telstra Smart Modem with 4G backup: if a fixed-line outage hits, it switches to Telstra's 4G network and can text or email you when it does.
Telstra Air gives access to around 1 million Wi-Fi hotspots across Australia, plus 19 million through overseas partners, bundled with eligible mobile, internet and mobile broadband plans.
Rewards
Telstra Plus is a free rewards program where you earn 10 points per dollar spent on eligible services and redeem them on discounts in the Telstra online store, including devices, plus discounted movie and sport tickets. Your tier is set by your annual eligible spend, and benefits may vary over time.

Manage your account
My Telstra consolidates all your Telstra services in one place, online or through the My Telstra app. You need a Telstra ID (your username and password) to sign in: if you have used the app or managed services online before, you probably already have one. New customers can register once their service is active using a Telstra mobile number, landline number or account number.
You can sign up online or over the phone on 13 20 00. Signing up online waives the $99 NBN connection fee. When you join, Telstra runs a credit check and asks for valid identification.
You will need one primary form of ID (a valid Australian passport, driver licence or other valid licence) plus two secondary forms (such as a Medicare card, an Australian government-issued benefits card or a birth certificate).
Common questions
Telstra is Australia's largest and oldest telecommunications provider, with 100+ years of experience and a reputation for the widest and fastest network coverage nationwide. Telstra supplies NBN, mobile, home phone and broadband services to millions of Australians, and is a major NBN infrastructure provider.
Telstra offers prepaid and contract phone plans, SIM-only plans, mobile phones (including Blue Tick and rural-coverage models), NBN broadband and home phone plans, mobile broadband and 4G backup modems, plus Telstra Plus rewards and Telstra Air hotspots.
Telstra's 4G network covers 99% of Australians, and its 5G network reaches 92% of the population across 2,700+ suburbs and 200+ cities (as of January 2025). Telstra also has the broadest coverage in regional and remote areas compared with all competitors.
Telstra NBN plans come with the Telstra Smart Modem (4G backup) and an optional home phone plan. Popular tiers include NBN 25 (500 GB per month for $80), NBN 50 (unlimited data for $95 per month) and NBN 100 (unlimited data for $110 per month). Plans are month-to-month, online sign-up waives the $99 connection fee, and you get extras such as Telstra Air, Plus points and three months of Foxtel Now.
If you go over your data allowance, your speed is throttled to 256 Kbps until the next monthly period starts. Unlimited-data plans do not have this restriction.
Most Telstra plans include features like a home phone, Smart Modem, Telstra Air and Telstra Plus. You can also sign up for multiple Telstra products separately to simplify billing and unlock more rewards, even though there is no longer a classic "bundle" plan.
The Telstra Smart Modem provides 4G backup for your NBN plan, keeping you online during a fixed-line outage by switching to Telstra's 4G network. The $216 modem is yours to keep if you stay 24 months, otherwise you return it or pay it off. You can set it to send an SMS or email when it switches to the backup network.
Telstra has the widest network and a strong feature set, but it is not the cheapest. Compare Telstra against the major providers and challenger telcos that cover your address to find the plan that fits how you actually use the internet.
