How to buy

Three ways to get a Telstra phone

Whether you want to own a phone outright, spread the cost interest-free, or just bring the device you already have, Telstra has a path that fits.

Buy outright

Pay the full price up front and own the phone from day one, with no plan required. Best if you want zero ongoing device commitment or plan to bring it to a cheaper SIM-only plan.

Pay monthly on a plan

Add a device to an eligible month-to-month mobile plan and pay it off interest-free over 12, 24 or 36 months. Some devices do not offer the 36-month term. A credit check applies.

Bring your own phone

Already have a phone? Pair it with a SIM-only plan and skip the device cost entirely. Just make sure it is unlocked and supports 4G VoLTE calling.

Save & upgrade

Trade-in, upgrade & price guarantee

Telstra has a few programs that can cut the cost of a new phone or let you change devices sooner.

Trade-in for credit

Consumer and small-business customers aged 18+ on a post-paid or Upfront plan can trade in an eligible phone, tablet or smartwatch for credit. The amount depends on the model and its working condition, and is subject to assessment.

Upgrade & Protect

On a repayment plan you can upgrade for no fee in the final six months of a 12-month term, or the final 12 months of any longer term, so you are not locked in until the very end.

7-day price guarantee

If you find a better advertised price on the same new eligible device within seven days of receiving it, Telstra credits the difference to your bill.
