Mobile Phone and Internet Bundles Australia

Updated on

Choosing to bundle your home NBN plan with other services can seem like a great idea, you’ll have your services all in one place and might save some money with a bundled discount, but what can you bundle with your NBN plan? Broadband providers in Australia offer different types of NBN bundles, including with a home phone plan, entertainment options like Fetch or Foxtel, with a mobile phone plan, and even home energy services.

Pros and Cons of Bundling Broadband

Bundling your home NBN plan with another service (or two) can seem like a great option. You can get deals on entertainment such as Foxtel or Fetch, save money on your mobile phone or home broadband services, and keep your essential home utilities such as home energy and broadband all with one provider. There are some downsides to bundling your NBN though.

Pros of bundling your NBN

  • Manage multiple services under one account
  • Get discounts for bundling different services

Cons of bundling your NBN

  • Might not always get the best deal
  • Less flexibility with changing and switching plans

While you might be saving $5 or $10 per month on your home broadband or mobile phone plan, this cost might be offset by not getting the cheapest deal out there. Particularly with NBN and home energy bundles, it’s imperative to compare electricity and gas services across multiple providers especially if you’re looking for the cheapest electricity and gas plan.

You also might lose out on the flexibility of switching plans and providers, and might not always get what you need. Particularly with some of the bigger providers, you might need to pay a hefty upfront cost if you cancel one of these services early, which can mean any savings you might have gotten go down the drain.

Top 5 Internet & Mobile Bundles

Bundling your home internet and mobile phone plan can make sense. You save time and stress by keeping your internet and phone plans under one provider, and you can usually score a $5 or $10 discount which, while it might not seem like much, could save you $120 per year.  While most offer home phone and NBN bundles, there are a few mobile phone and NBN providers that offer discount home internet and mobile bundles, which you can learn more about by reading below.

Should I Bundle My Mobile Phone and Internet?

To some, it makes sense to bundle your mobile phone and internet plans under one provider. Usually, you could not only save money but save yourself time with the convenience of having both contracts with one telco.

  • Discounts: By bundling your home broadband and mobile phone plans you could save between $5 and $10 per month. While not massive savings, this still could save you up to $120 per year.
  • Convenience: It makes sense to keep your telco contracts under a single provider. When it’s time to pay your monthly bill, you don’t need to worry about paying different companies at different times.

However, it’s important to always shop around and make sure you’re getting the best deal. While you might think you’re saving a little extra every month, some cheaper NBN providers or mobile phone providers might offer better service, at a better price, that you might miss out on if you choose to bundle everything together. By comparing NBN plans and mobile phone providers, you might even save more choosing to get your service from two different companies.

NBN Bundles + Home Phone

The NBN rollout means that landlines, using the old school copper wires, are essentially obsolete but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a home phone anymore. Despite the rise in cheap mobile phone plans with unlimited standard national calls, there is something to be said about having a home phone.

These days, most NBN providers offer VoIP home phone services, which connect directly to your NBN modem and are a cost-effective way to maintain your landline without needing to use the old copper wires. If you’re not someone to use a landline frequently, most NBN plans come with pay-as-you-go calling, so you only pay for what you use, but you can often find home phone and NBN bundles, which often include unlimited calls to local, national, mobile, and even international numbers for a small additional monthly cost.

Most NBN providers offer VoIP services as well, but below you can find a selection from some of the biggest broadband providers in Australia.

Telstra NBN Bundles with VoIP

Telstra offers VoIP plans with it’s NBN offers, bundled into their NBN25, NBN50, NBN100, and NBN Superfast and Ultrafast plans at no extra cost. With Telstra VoIP you get:

  • Unlimited calls to Australian mobiles and standard fixed lines
  • Unlimited calls to 13 numbers
  • Call connection fees included
  • Unlimited calls to 1223, 1234, and 12456

If you’re looking to make frequent international calls you can add an international call pack, with unlimited fixed line calls to fixed lines in 35 countries and unlimited mobile calls to 17 countries, for an additional $15 per month.

Aussie Broadband NBN Bundles with VoIP

If you’re interested in signing up for an NBN plan with Aussie Broadband and want to know what they offer for VoIP, there are plenty of options to choose from. All Aussie Broadband NBN plans come with pay-as-you-go calls, but if you’re looking for unlimited calls you have a few options:

  • Casual PAYG: Local calls for 15 cents, mobile calls for 22 cents, and national calls for 15 cents
  • Everyday: $10 per month for unlimited calls to all Australian numbers
  • International Talk: $20 per month and includes unlimited calls to all Australian numbers and $15 Talk Time credit for international calls to select destinations
