What is Mojo Power?

Mojo Power is an Australian green energy company with operations in New South Wales, Queensland, and South Australia.

Mojo is working to bring renewable energy to the masses by focusing on affordability.

Mojo's slogan is "going green doesn't have to cost the earth." To usher in renewable energy, Mojo Power focuses on Green Power to help families who aren't able to afford solar panels or electric vehicles still opt for green energy.

Unlike other power companies, mojo doesn't own fossil fuel energy generation. They are counting on renewable energy for the future and are currently working toward being net renewable by 2024.

To do this they are focusing on contracting their future wholesale electricity from renewable energy sources like solar farms found across Australia.

Mojo Power takes after other alternative energy providers such as Amber Electricity and Elysian Energy and makes profit in a non-conventional manner.

The energy provider claims it doesn’t markup the usage rates it passes on to its customers, but rather their daily supply charge. This means Mojo Power doesn’t benefit from their customers using more energy, meaning they are there to help you take control of your usage and lower your energy bills as much as possible.

Who is Mojo Power owned by?Mojo Power was founded in Australia and is Australian operated from its head offices in Sydney. However, Mojo Power is only partly Australian owned as it has international investors that include Soft Bank China Capital and South Cross Venture Partners.

Here is a list of Mojo Energy Pros & Cons:

Mojo Energy Review: Pros

  • Offers up to 100% Green Power
  • Free Smart Meter Installation
  • Green Eneregy Focused
  • Online account & app management

Mojo Energy Review: Cons

  • No customer phone support
  • Direct debit only
  • Poor customer reviews
  • Only available in NSW, QLD, SA

Mojo Power Reviews

  • Here's how customer rate Mojo Power around the web:
  • Google Reviews: 2.8 Stars
  • Product Review: 2.8 Stars
  • CHOICE Review: 76% overall

We took a look around the web are Mojo Power reviews from real customers to find out what they had to say about the provider.

Mojo Power reviews were overall mixed, and this was a trend we saw from several different sources.

Google Reviews & Product Review both saw customers rate the company with an average of 2.8 stars.

The fact that these two platforms both have the same average score lends merit to the ranking.

On Product review, there were more 1-star reviews than there were 5-star reviews.

In general, the most common complaints we saw regarding Mojo Power were sudden price rises, problems with the website, difficulty signing up, and poor customer service.

One unhappy customer left the following Mojo Power review:

I had only been a Mojo customer for about 5 months. I received an email on the 15/12/21 notifying me of a price increase that would come into effect on the 04/01/22. Service charge increased by 30%! Single rate charge increased by 24%!
I emailed a complaint to support and as yet haven't received a response (3 weeks). I have now changed to ReAmped Energy.
Do yourself a favour, if you are considering Mojo Power, just don't. They will charge you a transfer fee to change to them and then increase your rates massively within a few months.
The most interesting part about this review is that Mojo responded and did acknowledge they had "missed responding" to the customer's concerns and that rates had recently increased all across Australia.

Another customer left the following review:

I have only just swapped over to Mojo but it looks like I will be changing again very soon. I cancelled my first attempt at swapping to them as it was woefully slow and lacking in prompt answers.
I have now joined, my cooling-off period is in about 4 days. The app's not working nor can I find out my usage online. No answers to phone calls or emails. I wait for the changeover to finalise, give them a week and if the service does not change I'll revert to another supplier. Prices may look good but if the accounts are as bad as the customer service, caveat emptor.
However, as Mojo Power is a smaller company, and unhappy customers are more likely to leave reviews, it's not always clear what to believe.

Other customers have had very positive experiences with Mojo, as can be seen in this Mojo Power review:

Takes a while to go through the motions of disconnection & scheduling meter install.. but I ended up with a free smart meter, which means I can get real-time data.. access to the cheaper All Day Breakfast plans, and as a bonus, I don't have to worry about missed meter inspections every 3 months (long story).

Read the reviews though, don't expect quick customer service, you really shouldn't need it with a power company anyway, everything is visible via their portal.. there are a few delays getting the free meter install where you will be on the higher rate.. but it's not the end of the world.. its still not as high as a lot of providers.

The online Mojo Portal does need a bit more oomf, sometimes it's a little unusable if you're really trying to dig into the historic data so to speak.. but again it's cheap.. it's free.. couldn't be happier to be away from the big companies, and having to call and negotiate every year.
According to this review, it seems that Mojo Power is a company that has good offers, but requires a little patience due to its small size.

Mojo Energy Plans

Mojo Energy offers several different energy plans depending on your need.

All Mojo Power plans come with no exit fees and no conditional discounts. However, Mojo does have a referral scheme where referring a friend to Mojo Power will get you a $50 credit toward your energy bill.

While Mojo power operates in NSW, QLD, and SA, they only sell the standing offer in SA.

Here is a list of all the Mojo Power plans available. Click on each plan to reveal more info.

All Day Breakfast Tariff

All Day Breakfast is the cheeky name for Mojo Power's flagship single-rate fixed energy tariff. With the All Day Breakfast tariff, you will enjoy the same low rate for your energy regardless of the day and time.

Another benefit to being on the All Day Breakfast tariff is that Mojo Power will install a free smart meter for you. This way you can monitor your electricity usage and have accurate bills with no surprises. All Day Breakfast is available in NSW & QLD.

Single Minded Tariff

Single Minded is the name for Mojo Power's standard fixed-rate tariff. Just like the All Day Breakfast tariff, the Single Minded tariff maintains the same rates all year long.

The one difference between All Day Breakfast and this tariff is that the Single Minded tariff is made for people who don't want a smart meter installed or are unable to have one installed. The Single Minded tariff is available in NSW & QLD.

Evergreen Tariff

The Evergreen tariff is Mojo's green energy tariff. The Evergreen tariff offers Green Power options of 25% 50% or 100%.

By choosing Green Power, Mojo will match the equivalent amount of energy you select from renewable generation sources across Australia. This means more green energy going into the electricity grid and fewer greenhouse gasses associated with your energy use.

Mojo also prides itself on Evergreen being cheaper than many other company's fossil fuel-based energy plans. Although the Evergreen tariff is not a fixed-rate plan, it offers similar rates as the All Day Breakfast tariff with green energy included for free. The one caveat to the Evergreen plan is you must have a smart meter to be able to sign up for this tariff. The Evergreen tariff is available in NSW & QLD.

Common Grounds Tariff

The Common Grounds plan is the name of Mojo Power's energy tariff available to households in rural Queensland. Mojo Power is one of the only energy retailers operating in this area of Queensland, which makes this tariff very interesting. You can access the Common Grounds tariff if you are on the Ergon Energy distribution network.

Rates for this tariff are available for single-rate or controlled load. You do not need a smart meter to use this tariff. The Common Grounds tariff is only available in Rural Queensland

G'day Sunshine Tariff

G'day Sunshine is the name of Mojo Power's highest rate time-of-use solar feed-in tariff. With G'day sunshine, you'll receive a high payout rate for exporting energy to the grid and be placed on a time-of-use tariff. Mojo will also install a new smart meter for you so you can track your energy usage and how much you are exporting. The G'day Sunshine tariff is available in NSW & QLD.

Customers in NSW will get 22c/kWh for the first 5kwh, then 7.5c/kWh after that

Customers in SE QLD will get 18c/kWh for the first 5kWh, then 5.5c/kWh after that. However, if you have the QLD Solar Bonus, you will get 18c/kWh added to your 44c/kWh.

Standing Offer Tariff

The standing offer is equivalent to the default market offer and is a variable rate plan. This plan offers no special benefits and is the same everywhere as it follows the reference price in each state. You will be switched to this plan after your benefit period expires on your contract.

Mojo Power Electricity Rates By State

Mojo Power has stopped offering plans to new customers for the time being. Due to the energy crisis, Mojo is only offering standing offer plans to current customers.

When we visited the Mojo Power website, we were shown the following message:

Currently all Market Offers and Standing Offers are not available to new customers. Standing Offer is available to current customers only. As you may be aware there is significant movement and volatility in the wholesale electricity market, and this is impacting our ability to offer competitive pricing at this time.
