Red Energy FAQ

Is Red Energy 100% Australian owned?

Yes! Red Energy is 100% Australian owned. Red Energy is owned by Snowy Hydro Limited, an Australian owned energy company that is dedicated to renewable energy and increasing competition of the energy market. Red Energy joined the energy retail market in 2004 and now supplies electricity and gas to more than one million customers in NSW, ACT, VIC, QLD and SA.

In addition, 100% of Red Energy customer service is Australian. The Red Energy head office is in Melbourne, Australia and their friendly customer service team is always there to assist you with any energy related questions you may have.

Is Red Energy Cheaper than Origin Energy?

The cost of gas and electricity can vary depending on your location, usage, and the plan you choose. However, according to Selectra's energy comparison tool, Origin Energy plans tend to be slightly less expensive than Red Energy plans. On the other hand, Red Energy plans tend to have incredible benefits and discounts that are worth looking into. It's worth comparing energy plans based on prices for gas and electricity, but also based on discounts, rewards and benefits, in order to see which one is the most cost-effective for you.

How Do I Sign Up for Red Energy?

Existing customers can sign-up for a new Red Energy plan for your current house, or if you’re moving house, online or over the phone.

New customers who wish to sign up to Red Energy can choose a new energy plan for their current home, or for a home they are moving into, online. Customers who sign up will need to provide all the relevant information necessary including their address and personal information as well as proof of identification in order to agree to a credit check.

When opting to sign up with Red Energy in a new home, you will need to agree to an electrical safety agreement for your new premise, stating that you understand there must be clear and easy access to the meter, the main switch will be turned off, and that reconnection or disconnection may occur remotely at any time of the day which can cause exposed wires to become live without notice.

How Much is the Red Energy Connection Fee?

Your energy service (electricity or gas), the state you live in, whether you have a smart meter, and your energy distributor all determine the amount of fees you might have to pay for your energy connection.

Red Energy connection fees typically range from $8 to $66. It's always best to check your contract or contact Red customer service to find out the exact amount. It is important to note that connection fees are determined by your energy distributor, not by Red Energy, and they will appear on your final energy bill.
