Overview of SpinTel

Sydney-based company SpinTel has been in the telecommunications business since it first launched in 1996 as Spin Internet, providing dial-up connection to local residents. Since then, it has grown to include not only broadband services but also mobile network services through the telecom provider Optus.

In 2011, Spin Internet changed its name to SpinTel to better reflect the full spectrum of telecommunication services it provides.

SpinTel is powered by the Optus 4G network, which covers 98.5% of the Australian population. Australians in most major cities and surrounding areas will have 3G and 4G coverage and can expect to see expanded coverage in the next six months.

Want to sign up to a SpinTel service?

Customers can sign up to a SpinTel service either online or over the phone. SpinTel will prompt you to check your address to see what broadband services are available in your area.

When signing up, you will need to provide one of the following to allow SpinTel to do a credit assessment:

  • A valid Australian passport
  • Drivers license
  • Medicare card
  • Proof of age card

Moving house with SpinTel broadband

Customers moving house, who wish to maintain their SpinTel service, can contact SpinTel’s moving team by calling 1300 551 442 or through email, available Monday to Friday 9 am to 7 pm.

The time it takes to relocate a service depends on what service you have. An active home phone can take between 1-3 days, while NBN can take between 5 and 20 days so it’s best to plan to move your services as early as possible to ensure a seamless transition.

If you are moving to a location that does not support your current plan, you may need to change your plan. If you need to cancel your current plan, you might incur an early termination fee.

Cancelling your SpinTel service

In order to cancel your SpinTel account, you’ll need to call SpinTel customer service at 13 22 10 with at least two weeks notice to avoid being charged your next billing cycle.

If you choose to cancel a contract before the end of the term you will be charged an early termination fee, and for any additional promotions you might have received.

SpinTel billing information can be found on SpinTel My Account under “view bills” as well as online bill payments. In addition, customers can pay online without logging into My Account.

Customers give SpinTel mixed, but positive, reviews. Customers like that the setup is usually quite easy, and that broadband speeds are reliably fast. Customers also like that customer service quickly responds to any issues that might arise. However, customers have said that cancelling can be difficult, with a slower response from customer service than when signing up.
