iiNet has three NBN VoIP bundles. VoIP uses relatively little data to use, around 13MB per hour of calling, and only requires a download/upload speed of 100Kbps (though 3Mbps is recommended). Given that all NBN plans can reach at least 12Mbps and most come with unlimited data, this shouldn’t be a problem for most households.
Is a Paid or Free VoIP Phone Service Better?
It’s important to note the difference between paid and free VoIP services. Paid VoIP bundles are usually best reserved for a home phone or landline whereas free VoIP services (such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, or Telegram) are usually reserved for your mobile phone or over the computer. With free VoIP services, you should also know that some may still require a paid subscription to be able to call certain phone numbers.
How Do I Set Up My VoIP Phone?
Unlike old landlines, your handset will need to plug directly into your NBN modem. While this is simple enough to do, this might mean your landline is not in the most accessible place in your home. Unfortunately, once you switch to the NBN your old telephone wall socket will no longer connect to the telephone exchange.
Do I Need a Home Phone with NBN?
