Who they are
Southern Phone is an Australian regional telecommunications company that has offered regional broadband and mobile services since 2002. First established by local councils in New South Wales to give regional and remote Australians telecommunications solutions, it has since provided more than $14.8 million in dividends to the local councils who are shareholders.
Southern Phone offers regional support to communities through grants and schemes, including donating $25,000 per year to each of its local council shareholders for community groups, and a STEM scholarship program first launched in 2017.
In 2019, Southern Phone was bought by AGL Energy and is now a wholly owned subsidiary. It uses the Optus 4G network to deliver broadband and mobile services. By using both the Optus and Telstra networks, Southern Phone reaches over 98.8% of the Australian population.
