Why Energy Locals?
Energy Locals offers innovative, sustainable energy to Australians at wholesale rates. This means Energy Locals does not make a profit off the energy their customers use, and they have no incentive to get you to use more. Energy Locals is a unique energy provider for a number of reasons.
100% carbon neutral energy: Not only the energy their customers use, but also the electricity used to run Energy Locals, at no extra cost to their customers.
Simple and transparent rates: You can see exactly how much you pay, and why, making it easier to compare energy rates and decide if Energy Locals is right for you.
Innovative: Energy Locals has partnered with Sonnen and Tesla to bring solar energy battery storage to Australia. They’ve also paired with Enosi to bring peer-to-peer energy to solar energy customers, allowing customers to buy and sell their own solar energy to their friends and neighbors.
Give back: Energy Locals supports local projects and organizations that bring sustainable energy to local communities, as well as bigger organizations such as the Cancer Council
What other energy providers offer wholesale electricity?
Wholesale electricity is a new way for energy providers to retail electricity to their customers. Rather than markup the cost of electricity, these providers usually offer electricity at the same rates they purchase from the energy generators while making a profit off of membership fees or costs. Outside of Energy Locals, there are two other energy providers currently retailing wholesale electricity. These providers are:
It’s important to note that if you’re choosing a wholesale electricity provider, your electricity rates will change frequently as is the nature of the wholesale electricity market. By law, energy providers must offer consumers a price estimate, and reflect how this compares to the market offer, which can be tricky when the cost of wholesale electricity is constantly changing. As such, providers such as Energy Locals, Amber Electric, and Powerclub must estimate how much their rates will be, and how much you could save, but in reality the savings could be much more (if wholesale rates are down) or much less (if wholesale rates are up).
Wholesale energy providers often offer measures to ensure you’re saving as much as you can, especially when wholesale costs are up, such as with Powerclub which utilizes an alert system to let you know if wholesale rates are spiking so you can power down your home and save energy and money.
