About QEnergy Australia
QEnergy is privately owned by ION Limited, an Australian company, which it claims allows it to provide specialised energy services.
QEnergy is a small energy company that predominantly operates across parts of Queensland and Victoria with services in New South Wales and South Australia. While QEnergy has traditionally been a business energy retailer, it does offer electricity plans to certain residential customers.
QEnergy Rates & Plans
While QEnergy is predominantly an energy provider for Victorian businesses, they do offer some residential energy plans as well.
QEnergy has stopped offering plans to new customers for the time being. Due to the energy crisis, the only QEnergy Rates available are their standing offer plans for current customers.
We visited the QEnergy website to review their plans and were greeted with the following message:
Currently all Market Offers and Standing Offers are on hold to New Customers. Standing Offer is available to current customers only. As you may be aware there is significant movement and volatility in the wholesale electricity market, and this is impacting our ability to offer competitive pricing at this time.
For companies offering new sign-ups, you can see our article on the cheapest electricity rates on the market right now.

QEnergy Review
In our research of QEnergy reviews, it’s worth mentioning that customers review QEnergy very favourably, which is notable considering customers are more likely to review a negative experience rather than a positive one.
Across two of the biggest review services, the average QEnergy review is 3.6 out of 5 stars.
On TrustPilot, 319 reviews give a QEnergy review of 3.6 with over 50% of them 5 stars.
On ProductReview, seven QEnergy reviews give the power company 4.3 out of 5 stars.
Says Bootscooter, a verified QEnergy customer from Adelaide who gives 4 out of 5 stars on ProductReview for his QEnergy review:
Great rates, reliable service, but their online portal stinks
TL;DR If all you want is some really good rates, I couldn't find any better (at least when I signed up 6 months ago). If you want a functioning online portal where you can monitor your usage, I'm afraid you can't get that here.
Most customers cite these reasons for leaving a positive QEnergy Review:
- QEnergy has some of the lowest rates customers have found
- Helpful customer service
- Straightforward billing
- Seamless signup
However, of the negative QEnergy reviews, customers say:
- QEnergy’s online features are limited (you can’t pay a QEnergy bill online)
- Difficulty speaking to QEnergy sales agents
Jason, on ProductReview, says in his 1-star QEnergy review:
Incompetent company
Have contacted my current provider to stop the transfer. I have tried to contact qenergy via email & telephone. Today I finally spoke to someone and there was no record of my sign up on their system, even though I gave the customer number. They found no record of d.O.B. Mobile or the customer number which I repeated 4 times.
Useless company. Stay away. No customer service at all.
Is QEnergy Any Good?
It’s hard to say whether QEnergy is any good, as everyone’s experiences with energy providers are different.
QEnergy Pros
- Competitive electricity rates
- Simple energy plans
- Positive customer reviews
QEnergy Cons
- Electricity only
- Limited online features
- Online sign up only available in Vic
Perhaps the biggest disadvantage to QEnergy is that it does not offer discounted energy plans to most residential customers. Unless you live in Victoria, your QEnergy plan is equal to the reference price.
Another disadvantage to QEnergy is its limited online features. QEnergy customers have noted the online account management services QEnergy has are basic, and customers can’t even pay their QEnergy bill by credit card online. For Australians who want a tech-savvy energy company with a comprehensive online account platform, it might be best to look elsewhere.
However, the majority of customers’ QEnergy reviews are quite positive, and the energy retailer scores an average of 3.6 out of 5 stars. It’s notable that several customer reviews cite QEnergy’s cheap electricity rates as a reason why they like the power company.
Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide if QEnergy is a good energy company, and Selectra encourages you to research electricity and gas providers to find the best deal for you.
