What is Origin Broadband?

While Origin is a well known household name in the energy market, as one of the biggest energy providers in Australia, did you know they also offer broadband?

Origin has recently joined the growing number of home utility companies that offer both home energy and home internet all in one place. The biggest advantage to bundling your Origin Energy and Origin broadband plans? Like with most other bundled home utility companies, Origin will give you $10 off your monthly Origin broadband bill when you sign up for both.

If you’re already an Origin Energy customer, Origin broadband might seem like a good deal but, what can you actually get with an Origin internet plan?

While Origin internet plans are simple and don’t come with many inclusions, you can choose to add a modem (or BYO) and a VoIP home phone line to your plan:

• Origin Modem: BYO modem when you sign up for an Origin broadband plan or purchase one outright from Origin for $120 upfront, plus delivery.
• VoIP/Home Phone: Choose pay-as-you-go VoIP or add premium VoIP with unlimited standard AU calls to local, national, and mobile numbers for an additional $10/month.

Origin Internet Plans and Bundles

Origin internet plans come in five speed tiers, and are available for both fibre and NBN connections.

• Origin NBN: For customers on the National Broadband Network

• Origin Fibre Broadband: For customers with fibre broadband

All Origin internet plans come with unlimited data and no lock-in contract, and cost doesn’t differ between fibre and Origin NBN. You can choose to bring your own (BYO) modem, or purchase a modem from Origin for $120 +delivery. In addition, while Origin internet does not include entertainment bundles, like other providers you can get a landline with your Origin broadband plan.

Do you need to contact Origin broadband?

You can call Origin broadband using one of two phone numbers, depending on when you signed up for your Origin internet plan. Your Origin broadband number is, depending on when you signed up:

• Before 19 July 2021: 1300 508 830
• After 19 July 2021: 1300 980 711

Pay My Origin Broadband Bill

The only way you can pay your Origin broadband bill is through direct debit.

When you sign up for an Origin internet plan, you will be required to provide either a valid bank card (Visa or Mastercard), or bank account information. During sign up you can also choose whether you would like to receive your Origin broadband bills and written correspondence by either email (eBilling) or post.

In our research of Origin broadband reviews across the web, the consensus seems to be mixed as to whether Origin internet is any good.

While some Origin internet customers say that customer service is great, and often name agents by name when complimenting them, other customers claim long hold times, rescheduled NBN appointments, and issues with cancelling or switching providers

Is Origin Internet Any Good?

It’s hard to definitively say whether Origin internet is any good, as everyone’s experiences differ.

What we like about Origin internet is that Origin Energy customers can score a $10 discount every month when they bundle all their Origin services. For non-Origin Energy customers, it might be worth it to look elsewhere to find a cheaper broadband plan.

Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide whether switching to Origin internet is right for you and you should do your own broadband research to compare internet plans and providers.
