Optus Sport has shut down: where football moved & what to do

Optus Sport, the long-time home of English and international football streaming in Australia, shut down on 1 August 2025. All football coverage, including the English Premier League, has moved exclusively to Stan Sport. Optus Sport closed on 1 August 2025

Optus Sport, the long-time home of English and international football streaming in Australia, shut down its digital service on 1 August 2025. The app and website are no longer available, and Optus Sport no longer hosts live games, highlights or replays.

All current football coverage, including the Premier League and other top competitions, has moved exclusively to Stan Sport, which is now the official Australian broadcaster for many of the world's favourite football competitions.

What Optus Sport was

Launched in 2016, Optus Sport was Optus's live and on-demand football streaming platform. It played a major role in bringing football to Australian screens, offering live matches, highlights, replays and the OS Fitness service. Following changes in broadcast rights and a strategic shift, the service ceased operating on 1 August 2025.

The football leagues Optus Sport carried, now on Stan Sport:

  • English Premier League (EPL)
  • Emirates FA Cup
  • J.League (Japan)
  • National Women's Soccer League (USA)

The new home

Where Optus Sport content moved

All of the football that was on Optus Sport now lives on Stan Sport, an add-on to a Stan subscription. Most former Optus Sport subscribers can keep watching the same football for just $9.99 per month for the next three football seasons; standard Stan Sport pricing is shown below.

Stan Sport is more than football. It also carries:

For former subscribers

What former Optus Sport subscribers should do

If you want to keep watching your favourite teams and leagues, you need to move across to Stan Sport. Annual Optus Sport subscribers received a pro-rated refund for any remaining subscription time and were invited to take up the new Stan Sport offer at the same $9.99 monthly rate.

  1. 1 Sign up for Stan using the same email address that was linked to your Optus Sport account, so eligible offers are applied automatically.
  2. 2 If you used Optus SubHub, you can still move across with your Optus-linked email, but the new subscription will no longer be managed through SubHub.
  3. 3 Watch for emails from Optus confirming your account closure, any refund and your Stan Sport migration details.
  4. 4 Already a Stan Sport customer? You do not need to do anything: the former Optus Sport football content was added to your subscription automatically.
