Your Optus 5G modem
To switch to an Optus 5G plan you need a 5G-enabled modem, which is included with your plan. The modem is free if you stay for 36 months; if you leave before then, you pay out the remaining modem value, up to a maximum of $576. There is no technician visit: when it arrives, you simply plug it in.
How to set up your Optus 5G modem
- 1 Unbox the 5G modem when it is delivered to your address
- 2 Plug the modem into a power point and turn it on
- 3 Open the My Optus app to find the best position for your modem
- 4 Position the modem in the spot with the strongest signal
Once you have found the best signal in your home, the modem will update to the latest firmware automatically. This can take some time, so allow up to 24 hours to reach your maximum download speeds. If you have trouble connecting, contact Optus support on 1300 101 693.
