Ampol: your questions answered
On 1 July 2025, AGL acquired 100% of Ampol Energy, including its residential electricity customers in NSW and Queensland. Customers were migrated to AGL's billing and service platforms, with no immediate change to prices, fees or contract terms. The move reflects Ampol's shift toward EV charging infrastructure while AGL takes on the energy retail.
Ampol Energy sold electricity to households in New South Wales and south-east Queensland only. It did not offer gas, and was not available in Victoria, South Australia, the ACT, Western Australia, Tasmania or the Northern Territory.
Ampol kept things simple with one core electricity plan, Powering On, featuring variable rates, no exit fees and a fuel discount. In NSW (Ausgrid) the estimated annual cost was about $1,364, roughly 25% below the reference price; the QLD (Energex) figure was to be advised.
Ampol Energy was developing a dedicated EV plan for efficient at-home charging. Interested customers could join the waitlist on the Ampol Energy website.

Ampol accepted credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, with possible transaction fees), direct debit, BPAY, and cheque or money order via Australia Post. Electricity customers also received a 10c per litre fuel discount on up to 1,500 litres a year at participating Ampol stations through the app.
