The cheapest Telstra mobile plan costs only $35 per month. This is a mobile sim-only plan subscription with 25GB, with 5G network access. With other Telstra mobile plans, you will receive more data allowance, unlimited national and international calling, as well as uncapped download speeds. Telstra offers multiple options for add-ons and bundles, to help you save as much as possible on your mobile phone plans.

Telstra Mobile Coverage Map & Network Speed

The Telstra mobile network is the biggest mobile network in Australia, with 3G, 4G, 4GX, and now 5G coverage covering over 99% of the Australian population.

The Telstra 5G network is the fastest and most extensive 5G network in Australia. As of June 2021, Telstra 5G was already available to 75% of the population.

However to access any 5G network you must have a 5G enabled device and a plan that allows you access to the 5G network.

Currently, Telstra is offering 5G access on a several of their prepaid and SIM-only plans as well as some mobile broadband plans. If you’re interested in Telstra 5G network access, check to be sure 5G is available in your area.

Telstra Prepaid Mobile Phone Plans

Telstra offers 2 types of prepaid mobile plans depending on how you plan to use your phone:

1. Standard prepaid mobile plans
2. Casual prepaid mobile plans

Standard Prepaid Plans:
Telstra's standard prepaid mobile plans are for people who use their phones often and want unlimited calls and texts with flexible expiry periods.

Casual Prepaid Plans:
Telstra's casual prepaid mobile plans are for people who don’t frequently use their phones and therefore have fewer features included and longer expiry periods.

What is an expiry period?An expiry period is the maximum amount of time you can go without having to recharge. Most prepaid plans have an expiry period of 1 month.

Telstra prepaid mobile phone plans come with unlimited calls and texts to standard AU numbers, continuous data rollover, and international call and text inclusions to selected countries. Simply choose one of the prepaid plans below to start.

To get started with a prepaid plan from Telstra, you'll have to choose one of Telstra's prepaid starter kits.

Telstra Prepaid Mobile Starter Kit

To begin your prepaid plan, you must purchase a starter kit which is a temporary starter plan used to activate your Telstra SIM card.

The starter kid includes a SIM card that fits all sizes of phones and comes with an allotment of data, calls and texts to get you started until you choose a recharge plan.

The benefit of choosing a starter kit is that you could get extra bonuses for your first few recharges. However, you can also choose a simple starter kit that cost $2 and only includes a Telstra SIM card.

Once you've purchased your SIM starter kit, you will need to activate a standard or casual prepaid mobile plan. Then, you can continue to recharge with any of the prepaid recharge plans shown below.

Once you’ve purchased your prepaid Telstra SIM card through the starter kit, you can choose any of the Telstra recharge amounts below to continue your Telstra service.

All Telstra prepaid recharges come with the same call and text inclusions as their starter kits, including unlimited call and text nationwide to standard numbers.

Prepaid recharge plans do not include calls to premium numbers, international roaming or access to Telstra Air.

Telstra SIM Only Plans

Telstra SIM-only, no-contract mobile phone plans allow you to bring your own mobile device, or purchase one on a plan with Telstra to be paid off in 12 or 24 months.

Telstra Data Share:Telstra Data Sharing comes included by default with all Tesltra upfront mobile or data plans. To activate data sharing for Telstra, simply sign up for each SIM card using the same Telstra account, and the data will automatically be shared between users.

In addition, Telstra offers unlimited data on all their SIM-only plans at 1.5 Mbps download speed. Simply choose your data allowance, which will give you browsing data at full speed, and if you use that up your broadband speed will be reduced to 1.5Mbps without worrying about excess charges.

Here's what's Included:

• Unlimited standard national calls and text
• Telstra data sharing between up to 10 eligible services on the same Telstra account
• Unlimited data at 1.5Mbps download speed with no excess data charges
• 30 minutes of standard calls to overseas numbers from Australia
• Unlimited international SMS to all countries

However, if you plan to use these plans overseas, you will have to purchase an additional international roaming plan for calls, SMS, and MMS while travelling abroad.

Same as for the prepaid Telstra mobile plans, in order to get started with your SIM-only plan, you must purchase a SIM-only starter kit which is a temporary starter plan used to activate your Telstra SIM-only card.

Telstra Mobile Plan Add-Ons

Telstra offers many extra options for your current mobile plan including data, calling/messaging, internatioal calling and roaming. Before checking out the Telstra mobile plan extras, be sure to check that you have an active recharge on your current plan. You can then find the add ons in your Telstra login, by clicking first the services tab, then the extras tab. From there, you can see the extra packs that are available for your specifc mobile plan and sign up. Below are all the Telstra mobile plan add-ons if you want to see all options:

Telstra Activate & Recharge

To get started with your Telstra mobile service, you will need to activate your plan online. Activating your Telstra mobile plan online is simple, but we have included some step-by-step instructions to help you get everything set up:

1. Start by inserting your new SIM card into your device
2. Head to https://prepaid.activate.telstra.com.au to activate it
3. Enter your SIM serial number (on the back of your SIM kit)
4. Choose whether you want to transfer your existing number from your current provider, or get a new Telstra number
5. Choose whether you'd like to activate your SIM for a mobile or for another data-only device
6. Fill out your ID & contact details
7. Select a plan and recharge
8. Confirm your details and click Activate

Once you finish activating your SIM card, your pre-paid service should be up and running within 4 hours, but it can sometimes take a bit longer. If you are transferring your mobile number, Telstra can only do this within their operating hours.

For those transferring an existing number, it is important that you keep your current SIM card in your phone until your old service is disconnected. Once your Telstra service is activated, your service with your previous provider will be disconnected. Telstra will then send you an SMS or an email as soon as your number has been moved to Telstra.

To ensure that your service is activated, simply insert your SIM into your device. Then, turn the device off and back on again. If you see 'Telstra' next to the coverage bars, then your new service is active.

Please note that if you have a replacement SIM card, you have to call 13 22 00 in order to activate this service.

Once your Telstra mobile service is active, you may need to recharge your Telstra prepaid plan. You can recharge your account online in your My Telstra online account or on the mobile app.

Below are the steps to recharge your pre-paid service online:

1. Go to https://recharge.telstra.com.au
2. Enter your pre-paid mobile number
3. Choose your recharge amount
4. Select your preferred method of payment
5. Sign in to your account and follow the prompts to securely make your payment

If you are looking for information on how to recharge your pre-paid service via the My Telstra app, you are in the right place. First, login to the My Telstra app using your Telstra ID. Then just open the service tab and choose your pre-paid service. From there, all you have to so is click 'recharge now' and follow the prompts.

You can also call #100# to check your balance and recharge over the phone with Telsta customer service. If you don't want to have to recharge your Telstra mobile plan, you can also choose to set up an auto recharge, so your service recharges automatically.

If you are running low on data, calls, texts or international calling minutes, you can also recharge your account with these extra services. All you have to do is head to the Telstra recharge portal and enter your pre-paid service number. From there, you can select and pay for an Extra from the Extras tab.

Telstra Phones & Devices

Unlike some other mobile providers, Telstra offers the latest phones, tablets, and iPads, as well as mobile broadband enabled modems for purchase.

You can choose to purchase a phone outright from Telstra or add it to your month-to-month SIM-only plan and pay it off in installments over 12, 24 or 36 months depending on the device.
