Horizon Power: your electricity network

Horizon Power generates, distributes and sells electricity across regional and remote Western Australia, running dozens of stand-alone grids outside the main south-west network. Because a distributor is a regulated monopoly tied to your address, you cannot choose it, but you can still understand what it does, how to report an outage and how network charges shape your bill.

How it works

What does Horizon Power actually do?

Your electricity bill involves two different companies. Knowing which is which saves you calling the wrong number in a blackout.

Horizon Power (your distributor)

Owns the poles, wires, substations and meters across Western Australia. It connects your home, reads your meter, and restores power after a fault. You cannot choose or switch it: it is a regulated monopoly for your address.

Your retailer (the company on your bill)

Sells you the electricity, sets your plan and rates, and sends your bill. Horizon Power is a vertically integrated utility: in most of its towns it both runs the network and sells the electricity, so there is no separate retailer to switch.

Where Horizon Power operates

Horizon Power is the regulated electricity distributor for Regional and remote Western Australia, outside the South West Interconnected System (including the Pilbara, Kimberley, Gascoyne, Mid West and Goldfields). Not sure if Horizon Power is your distributor? It is printed on your electricity bill, or you can check by postcode on its website.

Power is out? Call Horizon Power, not your retailer

In a blackout, your retailer cannot help: it does not own the wires. Report the outage to Horizon Power on its 24/7 faults line 13 23 51. If life is at risk or a powerline is down, call 000 first.

Horizon Power is the electricity distributor for Regional and remote Western Australia, outside the South West Interconnected System (including the Pilbara, Kimberley, Gascoyne, Mid West and Goldfields). Your distributor is fixed by your address, so you cannot switch it.

Call the Horizon Power 24/7 faults and emergencies line on 13 23 51, or check its outage map at horizonpower.com.au. If a powerline is down or life is at risk, call Triple Zero (000) first. See our Horizon Power outages page for the full steps.

Horizon Power is a vertically integrated utility: in most of its towns it both runs the network and sells the electricity, so there is no separate retailer to switch. You cannot switch the distributor, and in this area there is little or no retail competition either, so an outage is always a network matter handled by Horizon Power.

Horizon Power pays a service-standard payment when it misses its guaranteed timeframes for supply restoration and appointments. The credit is paid automatically through your retailer, usually without a claim. See our power outage guide for how the scheme works.

For bills, plans, payments and moving home, contact your retailer (the company that sends your bill), not Horizon Power. Contact Horizon Power only for connections, meters, outages and network faults. See the contact page.
